Keyvan’s 14k swim for Alzheimers – Update 22

Like a prisoner, striking off the weeks before the time is up….before the Thames 14K swim event starts. And now we are on to the final straight. Sessions are getting longer, harder, more painful, more tiring….and more enjoyable (afterwards)!

Today was the last time the South West Swim Team got together for our longest swim yet, before the event on Sunday 6th August.

The 14K route is divided into 4 legs by 3 locks. This means we have to climb out and back in 3 times, with the first 2 legs the longest stretch. So, the aim of today’s swim was to swim continuously for 4K, have a feed and quickly back in the water for another 6K.

  • Leg 1 = 4km
  • Leg 2 = 6km
  • Leg 3 = 2km
  • Leg 4 = 2km

6 AM in the water. 3 to 3 hours 30 mins of swimming, looking to cover 10+K.

And now having completed 10.2K in 3 hours 12 mins, I can sit back with a smug look on my face; super happy that I have at last lost my marathon swim virginity (over 10K) in a time that will take me to the 14K in sub 4 hours (counting on the river flow)!

I am now writing this blog, sat in my chair in my study….with my backside firmly glued to the chair. Who said gravity is a weak force….it ain’t where I’m sat!
