Senior Discovery Support Consultant Vacancy

 
The Senior Support Consultant will suit individuals with BMC Discovery experience and background in Linux/Unix sysadmin, data analytics and experience in the installation and configuration of commercial software products. Experiences with a broad variety of OS platforms (including Windows, ESX, Solaris, AIX) will be an advantage.

The Senior Support Consultant must have attention to detail and be thorough and accurate whilst delivering to timescales. They must have good communication skills, be able to do deep data analysis on expansive data sets, able to translate technical concepts to business goals and challenge preconceptions. It is expected they will be self-motivated and will naturally test and try to come up a solution to a problem.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and interpret Solution Design in the deployment of the Discovery solution
  • Hold technical workshops and guide customers through best practice
  • Maintain and deploy custom TPL code (understanding of TPL code not prerequisite, but it is expected to be gained through a mixture of KT and exposure).
  • Reports, analyse and deliver summaries of discovery results.
  • Provide feedback from time to time with suggestions for improvements to standards, procedures and code.
  • Collaborate with architects and customers resources to raise change requests in accordance with standards and compliance.
  • Develop and engineer scripting solutions that improve efficiency of the discovery solution.
  • Investigate problems and issues reported with discovery, raise and track bug cases providing documented evidence of issues, and work with support teams to work-around and resolve.
  • Document their own steps to resolve issues, workarounds and improvements
  • Work in support environment to support related Managed and standard Service customer activities and Work with presales to support related presales activities as and when required
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for BMC Discovery and Data Quality
  • Advise on implementing best practice.
  • Data, Applications, Infrastructure and Asset Management
  • Install, configure, and Integrate discovery and customer solutions
  • Configure discovery and develop integrations as per requirements
  • Understand technical requirements and provide data analysis and reporting
  • Providing best-practice advice within context of customer constraints such as security and resources
  • Provide ad-hoc consultancy advice and guidance as required
  • Management of customer relationships, acting as a trusted advisor to customers on their projects and identifying new opportunities within the existing customer base

 

Experience

  • Detailed working experience with BMC Discovery
  • Working knowledge of ITSM CMDBs, in particular relating to data quality and integrations
  • Worked on large scale software and application deployments and/or modelling of data and applications
  • Experience of working autonomously supporting Managed and standard Service Customers
  • Perform BAU style tasks to run BMC Discovery on an operational basis for a short period of time.
  • Hands-on experience with the latest version of BMC Discovery
  • Familiarity with different types of Operating Systems, Network, Storage, Software, access methods and protocols used in infrastructure communications and discovery

 

Knowledge

  • Ability to be SC cleared.
  • Having experience with programming or scripting, such as TPL (BMC Discovery), Bash, Python, JavaScript.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - ability to interact and communicate clearly with customers and other stakeholders
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships in a distributed team, and to create effective collaboration with direct and extended team members
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of Data Quality principles
  • Ability to adapt to different environments, ways of working and terminology as it relates to the customer

 

Skills

  • Certified in BMC Discovery
  • Extensive use of TPL for application modelling and extensions using BMC Discovery
  • Certified in ITIL and/or Project Management

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant Degree
  • 3+ Years working with BMC Discovery including utilising TPL to extend discovery functions - or - 3+ years working with programming languages such as those listed above in an enterprise capacity, supporting monolithic applications
